A book titled "Titch," written and illustrated by Pat Hutchins and first published in 1971, features children in the same order, the girl also named Mary and the boys with one-syllable names (Pete and Titch) and bikes of the same color, though Titch's was a little yellow tricycle.

Ruth Chew, Magic in the Park, 1972, approximate. Carrillon grows up, she tries to find her husband Leon who has left home, and changed his name to Noel. Cyan returns to the island of Curacao one year after the death of her father, who apparently drowned in a boating accident. I vaguely remember one line from the story, describing part of the duel and what the older man was thinking as the duel began. However, they are kept fairly generic, so they can be enjoyed by kids around the globe.

I understand the hardcover, published by Lyle Stuart, appeared in 1961, and I'd love to get it--our paperback is pretty sad! The fairy that sticks in my mind is the foxglove because the illustration is so pretty and foxglove is a rather nasty flower. I don't remember him speaking in code, but that doesn't mean he didn't. Martha Freeman writes both humorous books, and mysteries for children. The technique of illustration alone is a mystery for first time viewers of the book. Also, due to the greater emphasis on snooping and sneaking, getting captured is a bigger threat, resulting in the kid getting Bound and Gagged and having to either break free, attract help, or be freed by a fellow Kid Detective. They fix up the equipment and find dazzling new acts, but what the show needs most is an acrobat.

There were other stories we can't remember the name of but they were about a young woman who had to knit sweaters out of nettles to tun her swan brothers into humans, a porcelain shepherdess who was supposed to marry a Chinese porcelain man, and two sisters (Rose red and Snow White?). Author, title, summary, and webcat link for about 15 books: 4 fiction, 4 mystery, and 6 non-fiction. Would you believe that I have neither read the book, nor seen the film? The two girls in this book are Susan, who lives with her Aunt Ruth, and Bernadette (Detta) who lives across the street with her 3 aunts - the Misses Genevieve, Hortense, and Cordelia. There is some sort of mystery surrounding this room too, which is resolved by the end of the story and I think she and/or her whole family get to stay on at the ranch where they were working once the mystery is solved.

Shadows shifted, darkened, lightened, grew, shrank. There was an error trying to load your rating for this title. The book was more "dark" than "fun" magical in tone. There is a voyage to the moon in Bobbie Bubbles(Chicago:RAnd McNally,1916), but this is a longer book, with both b&w & color illustrations I just found your website and I love it! Lobel, Arnold, Ming Lo Moves the Mounain, 1982. Young readers who enjoy basketball will love this book.

There are a number of these, including Matthew Looney's Voyage to the Earth, Matthew Looney's Invasion of the Earth, Matthew Looney in the Outback, Maria Looney on the Red Planet.
